Researching homeschooling has become pretty overwhelming over here. I was hoping that starting out, I would run across some type of checklist or a step-by-step guide for a good starting point. But what I actually found was a ton of information.
Hey there, I’m Amanda, mom of two little girls, and right now I’m in the very beginning stages of researching homeschooling for our family. My oldest daughter is currently enrolled to start kindergarten soon, and while we’re still planning to let her begin, I’ve felt a strong pull toward the idea of homeschooling.
So for now, I’m just researching and learning, trying to figure out what might be best for our family.
One of the biggest things I’ve noticed so far is that homeschooling looks very different depending on who you’re learning from. Some families have large, dedicated classrooms in their homes, carefully planned curriculum, and what looks like a full-time teaching setup. Others are much more relaxed and flexible, using everyday life as their classroom. For me, I keep wondering how this will actually work in my real, everyday home. One that isn’t built around a large budget or a dedicated homeschool space?
I thought it would be nice to document what this process looks like from the very beginning, not after everything is figured out, but while it’s still messy and uncertain. Right now, I don’t have a curriculum picked. I don’t have a schedule. I don’t even have a plan yet. All I know is that this has been on my heart for a long time, and I have lots and lots of questions.
Over the next few months, I want to share what I learn along the way. The resources and helpful things I find, along with the things that don’t. And what it actually looks like to explore homeschooling from a very real-life, beginner perspective.
If you’re here because you’re also wondering if homeschooling could work for your family and you’re in the researching stage like I am, I’m really glad you’re here. Let’s figure this shiz out together.
